Energy Ombudsman for small businesses
If your energy supplier or broker has treated you unfairly, overbilled you or won't sort a complaint, the Energy Ombudsman now handles small business disputes for free.
Roughly worth: Free
First step: Put a written complaint to your energy supplier, then go to the Ombudsman after 8 weeks.
Who it is for
Businesses with fewer than 50 employees (and turnover of £6.5 million or less). You need to have complained to your supplier first and waited 8 weeks, or had a deadlock letter.
How to get it
Complain to your supplier in writing. After 8 weeks, or sooner if they send a deadlock letter, register the dispute on the Energy Ombudsman website. There's no government energy bill support for businesses in 2026, so this and renegotiating your contract are the main routes.
Run by Energy Ombudsman. Last checked 14 October 2026 against the official source.
