What this site is
A free guide to the support, savings and schemes that already exist across the 12 North East councils. It tells you what exists, whether you are likely to qualify, and where to go next.
What it is not
We do not give advice about money, debt, benefits disputes, immigration or legal matters. For that, we point you to free qualified services like Citizens Advice, StepChange and National Debtline. Only the organisation that runs a scheme decides who gets it.
How we check
We only use official sources: GOV.UK, the NHS, councils, Ofgem, Ofcom and water companies. A person checks every listing against its official source before it goes live. Each listing shows when it was last checked. Anything overdue for a check is labelled, and anything 30 days overdue is removed until it is checked.
Your privacy
No sign-up. We never store your answers. Your results page holds your answers in its web address so you can print or share it; it never includes your name or postcode. We use your postcode only to find your council. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you report a problem, you only leave contact details if you choose to, and only our editors can see them.
Explaining in your own words
If you use “Explain in your own words”, what you write is sent to an AI service that picks out things like your age group or whether you rent. We don’t save what you write. The AI only matches you to listings that a person has checked. It never writes advice, and you can correct what it picked up before you see your list.
Accessibility
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. The site works on small screens, at 200% zoom and with screen readers. Tell us if something does not work for you.
Helping someone else
Support workers, librarians, volunteers and family members can run the check on someone’s behalf, then print the results to hand over.
